YouTube is set to officially launch a cheaper, “Premium Lite” version of its service, according to Bloomberg .
This new tier “will target viewers who primarily want to watch programs other than music videos,” reports the DLY.
It is known that YouTube piloted an ad-free version of a tier called Premium Lite in several European countries starting in 2021 before canceling the plan in 2023.
But the company confirmed in October that it was testing a “different version” of Premium Lite, and at least one user reported that the new version had limited ads.
In a statement, YouTube spokesman Paul Pennington said the company has been testing “a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free” and that they “hope to expand this offering to more users in the future with the support of partners.”
Pennington did not say specifically how much the service might cost.
